About Me

Welcome to The Conscious Planet! I’m Uma Satapathy, a student at the Awty International School in Houston, Texas with great ambitions for the environment. When I was young, I developed a strong fascination for the world around me and grew to love learning about our planet. I initially had no interest in animals, plants, or ecosystems because I, like many, found that such a topic could be too boring or pessimistic, with too many statistics to process and complicated terms to understand. Then, my first National Geographic young readers novel was bought for me; I was under the impression that it would bore me out of my mind, but I loved it and started buying more and more books. Those books led to magazine subscriptions, encyclopedias, research projects, and therefore my continued interest in environmental sciences. Resources like these enabled me to peel back the layers of a seemingly mundane topic to find a brilliant source of information with continued relevance. Since then, I've wanted to fundamentally reshape how we approach the environment and make information more palatable for others. My goal at The Conscious Planet is to just that, as well as share my enthusiasm about environmental science so that others feel inspired to take action, no matter how small. With our engaging blogs and insightful tips, you too can practice sustainability with a renewed sense of optimism.
